[Edward Watkins Sep 1766 testimony in suit brought by "Sir" John Clay against the executor of his father's estate - Chesterfield Co., VA Court Records, "Dead Papers" box 7, Folder 1770 - under oath Edward Watkins stated "John Clay, deceased, Father of the Plaintiff, intermarried with (my) daughter Sarah, now also deceased & Mother of the Plaintiff." "John Clay and his Brother Edward (are) the only Children or Issue of (my) Daughter."]John lived on north side of Swift Creek & upper side of Nut Tree Run, Chesterfield, VA. John's will was dated 15 Nov 1761 and probated Nov 1762. In his will, John Clay confirmed his gift of 200 acres to "Jeremiah Bass, Son of Mary Bass, now my wife." [Chesterfield Co. VA Will Book 1, pp. 342-342; probated 5 Nov 1762. Original in "Loose Papers"]b. 1718, d. 1761. m. (2)1759/60, Mary Bass, who Md. 2nd Thomas Woodridge(Wooldridge)["Martha (Clay) Bass and her Daughter Mary Bass Clay of Henrico and Chesterfield Cos., VA", Peggy C. Peacock. The Virginia Genealogist Vol. 31, pp. 298-305] Children by Sarah Watkins: 11. i "Sir"John Clay b. c 1742. ii Edward Clay b. 1744/49, Henrico Co., VA, m.(1)c 1770, in ? Cumberland co., VA, Magdelene Trabue, b. 1748, d. c 1815, m. (2) Jean Dupuy. Edward died 1820, Person, North Carolina. Magdelene Trabue was the dau of John James and Olympia Dupuy Trabue. They moved to Alabama, though some of their descendents apparently moved back to Charlotte Cty, VA.
