Notes

He didn't like his middle name and called himself G. G. Clements. Moved to Atoka, TX in 1892. The family story is that his half brother killed an man and since this brother had two children and G. J. Clements was only 19, and single, he took the blame and ran off to Texas. he met his future wife Buena there. They were visiting a friend in the country when two men on horseback stopped to ask for a drink of water. The well was in the front yard and when Buena went to raise the dipper of water for them. One of the men was Gabriel and he was also visiting a friend in the country. The next day he came riding back for another drink and they eventually married.
