Hi Hank, I found your Chandlers in a book I have. The line of descent shown in this book is:

1st generation - John Chandler, b. abt 1599 in England, came to America 1609 on ship "Hercules", m. 1st unknown, 2nd Elizabeth____, b. abt 1603 in England.

2nd generation - Robert Chandler, b. abt 1628, d. 12 Apr 1669 York Co., VA, m. Elizabeth Davis?, b. abt 1634

3rd generation - Robert Chandler, b. abt. 1659 in VA, d. aft. 1704 New Kent Co., VA, m. Elizabeth ____, b. abt. 1664 in VA

4th generation -Joseph Chandler, bapt. 11 Aug 169_, m. Sarah ____, b. 1764

5th generation - William Chandler b. 1729 King William Co., VA, m. Delita Cox Dobbins 1752

6th generation - your Richard Chandler, m. 17 Sep 1770 Elizabeth Carter

Our last common relative is the 4th generation Joseph. This information comes from "John Chandler Descendent Chart Book 1599 to Present", published last fall, I think by the Chandler Family Ass'n. You might be interested in it. They put out periodic newsletters. Good luck. Virginia

Hi, Hank, I'm afraid I can't help you any further. All I have is that Elizabeth Carter was the spouse of Richard Taylor. The Descendent book I referred to is exactly that and only that - no documentation. It's most helpful as a starting point for Chandler ancestors, but dates, places and spouses are the only information.

If you would like more information about the Chandler Family Association, write to: Joseph C. Burton, 311 Northlake Drive, Anderson, SC 29625 - ph. 803/224-9042. The Chandler book I referred to is "Our Joseph Chandler of Caswell Co., N.C." by Ilene Chandler Miller. I doubt that it would help you with your Carter. The book digresses from the line you are interested in after the 4th generation. I looked in the index and did not find Elizabeth Carter. It's possible that the family association might have a lead for you.
